Bird watchers love the proximity to the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. A drive through parts of Salvo will revel stacked crab pots, fish boxes and Banker fisherman at work just as they were generations ago.
Bring along your four wheel drive vehicle. Salvo has a great beach access for your vehicle and a kiteboarding launch area. Here you can find picnic tables with grills on the soundside day use area provided by the National Park Service. A little south of Salvo is about ten miles of untouched National Park land. Here you can ride down untouched beach and pick out your own fishing spot or your own place to pull out the cooler and beach blanket.
